Congratulations to these winners, I must say I’m proud of them, Introducing Zaila Avant-Garde and Jaedon Whyte. This is great, these children have made us proud. Here is my question though, why do we know about the girl, Zaila, and not the boy Jaedon??? I think anyone will agree with me that Zaila got a lot of coverage from the media, for 2 to 3 days we heard everything about this girl and how difficult it was for her to win this race, and how she tried very hard to win the spelling bee., which is good I’m not knocking her for this. Let’s take a look at what this boy won, he won the International Mathematical Olympiad. Everyone will agree with me that Math is more difficult than the spelling bee, I’m saying that at least the Media should have given the same attention to the boy as they did to the girl, We didn’t hear about this story… the media could care less about him, actually, they could care less about both of these children.
My main problem is we do exactly as we are told, we do what the media tells us, someone should have come out and told all the media organizations about this boy. Winning a math competition is very impressive!!!! This boy won in a subject that “we” as black people don’t even like. Most people don’t like math because it forces us to think. Oh, believe me, math has a way of doing that. Congratulations to these children, but I think it is unfair how black boys are being treated.
We really need to start thinking for ourselves, In Today’s world, everyone wants to be an activist for the wrong reasons, or because they think they can make money from it. Example Black lives matter. I think we should recognize our own children, instead of being told exactly what to do. Once again congratulations to these children!!! You have made us Proud!!!!
