Since this is the current topic everywhere, including the media, It would be unfair not to talk about it. Almost everyone is talking about this, (with the exception of me). it never ceases to amaze me how many people just follow the media, regardless of history. Almost everyone is blaming the high gas prices on the war in Ukraine, In a way, they are right because oil is always involved. etc. but needless to say that is not the reason why there is a war in Ukraine, or should we say Russia attacked Ukraine.
This shows that people do not care about history and only focus on the current times. The high gas prices were a problem even before the war in Ukraine, and I remember our dear president was asked about inflation, and what he intends to do about it, Of course, we all know his answer suggests that he doesn’t know what to do about it. Then came the crises in Ukraine (I’m very sure the Media was thankful for that conflict/war because they didn’t have answers to the question of high gas prices)
Now gas prices are so high because Putin is so evil, and no other reason but he is evil. As we know the media is notorious for turning every story into a human interest one. “Putin is evil and doesn’t like FREEDOM” In no way am I justifying war, I don’t like war, it kills both enemies and friends, war attacks the common man, therefore I cannot justify war in any way. That being said, it is important to understand what is going on and how it came to this, why it is happening. Now let us look at the political situation, history will tell us that Ukraine was part of the USSR, After the fall of the USSR in the 90s Ukraine signed a lot of agreements and treaties, needless to say, It didn’t honor all of them, I cannot give a history lesson here because it is too much to type but the long and short of it is that Putin doesn’t want any of the NATO nations using Ukraine as a Military base while pointing missiles at Russia, just like the US didn’t like all those Missiles in Cuba, during the Cuba Missile crises.
The thing is that we as a generation haven’t learned from that crisis, President Kennedy and the leader of the USSR, Khrushchev were able to resolve this issue with a secret deal, without resulting in war. There wasn’t a single loss of life during that crisis.
As black people, I think we should understand what is going on before we take sides. We like to jump to conclusions and choose whichever side the media tells us to choose. It is time we know about world affairs, and also understand that we cannot learn history from the media, as far as gas prices, we should be asking our leaders why gas prices are so high, and not allow them to shift the blame to someone.
