Nothing New! http://selfequanimity.com/black-history-month-nothing-new/ http://selfequanimity.com/black-history-month-nothing-new/#respond Wed, 16 Feb 2022 02:43:02 +0000 https://selfequanimity.com/?p=1602 I saw this post today ….. I couldn’t believe what I was reading ,  They make it seem as if this is the first time black people have flown solo in a commercial plane. Black people have been flying since the 40s, 50s and 60s.  Every time there is an entire flight crew made up of black people, it has to make news , as if we are just learning how to fly.  Some silly people may believe this because as easy as research is these days , it is also very difficult because there is an over flow of information.

David E Harris, is the first Black American commercial airline pilot and first to achieve the rank of Pilot Captain, 1965

Immigrants from “black” countries come to the western world , some to visit, other for opportunity others for education.  Well for that to be possible , these countries have to have their own airports, where planes can actually take off ,  these airports are run by the natives in their respective countries , 90% of them are black (Not all), A country like South Africa might still have other races in charge. (David E Harris is still alive)

The headlines read way to go Canada!! that in itself is a problem ,  they should have put the truth on the headlines , like  ” Canada finally allows black people to fly a commercial plane by themselves” that would be a  more appropriate headline. Black people have been capable of flying for a long time,  the only problem is sometimes in the west , certain professions are seen as “white” while others are seen as “black”. I think this is where the problem starts and people don’t do enough research to know that , this is nothing new.

We cannot escape racism, I don’t know why but it seem as a human species, we have been very destructive, but if we stop treating each other like babies, and pretend to be happy as we are when we see a baby walk for the first time, maybe things  would be different.  in 2022 we shouldn’t be treated like babies on something we have been doing for a long time .

Melody Millicent Danquah Ghana’s first female pilot, 1965

This is an article that really  that got me curious, curious about the motives of the writer,  as  I have seen over and over again , entire cabin crew members  but black… especially flying from a country that has majority of its population black.  We have to do better!

Audrey Esi Swatson, Ghana’s youngest female pilot
