Eddie Murphy made more “out of line” jokes about people like Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Bill Cosby, and even Richard Pryor (his fellow comedian).  The interesting thing about Stevie Wonder jokes is that he Stevie Wonder, found them funny, especially how Eddie Murphy made jokes about his blindness. There weren’t enough jokes in the world from Eddie Murphy about Stevie, Stevie even appeared on Saturday night live with Eddie, and he even sang with him on his birthday(Eddie Murphy’s birthday that is). Dave Chappelle made jokes about Prince, we did not hear anything from prince about how much he hated Dave,  Chris Rock did make jokes about prince and ended up interviewing him. Brothers and sisters, there is a reason why Eddie Murphy isn’t going back to do stand-up comedy… people are too sensitive these days.  Who wants to get cancelled for no reason at all but a bit of humor… This is why I like the fact that Netflix stood behind Dave, people are getting too sensitive,  We do brag about freedom of speech, only if its without emotion though.  I hear the normal woke rhetoric about how black women need to be defended, well I agree with that , INCLUDING Chris Rock’s daughters as well, which girl wants to see her father slapped on stage like this????  We all need to laugh in these uncertain times brothers and sisters , let’s not make it worse!!!!!

Too Little , Too Late http://selfequanimity.com/too-little-too-late/ http://selfequanimity.com/too-little-too-late/#respond Tue, 29 Mar 2022 16:37:16 +0000 https://selfequanimity.com/?p=1734 I say this is too little too late,  He should have apologized when he gave his acceptance speech , but he didn’t , he apologized to everyone except Chris.  His statement is bogus. This is damage control at its best, a person like Will Smith shouldn’t  have done what he did , given that he had elements of this kind of violence in his history.  Hopefully everyone realizes the double talk in his apology, he couldn’t just say  I was out of line ,  he said, ” anyone can make jokes at his expense,  that is part of the job, but for Jada’s medical condition was too much to bear”, first question is what job is Jada in again ??  Oh yeah she is an actress just like Will, if she couldn’t take the heat, she should stay out of the kitchen. Again Michael Jackson had a known medical condition, anyone could have done research on Vitiligo, but the jokes kept coming, in fact when he revealed he had vitiligo, comedians doubled down on the jokes, even Michael Jackson in good faith thought some of the jokes were funny. Once you are in the entertainment business, this is part of the job, Will knew that, Jada knew it too. The truth of the matter is that , Will found a target he could pick on while impressing Jada at the same time.. and that was Chris Rock , surely he wouldn’t have done that to a few notable names like

  1. Mike Tyson(Former Heavyweight Champion)
  2. Michael Jai White(Actor, Martial Artist)
  3. Wesley Snipes(Actor, Martial Artist)
  4. Quinton Jackson (know for the A- Team movie)
  5. Evander Holyfield(Former Heavyweight Champion)

The fact that he thought he could walk up on stage and slap someone, because his wife was upset at a joke is quite interesting , this is where cancelled culture should strike but let us see if that happens. Never thought I see the day when Will Smith is a bully.

Again he wouldn’t have done it if he didn’t think he could get away with it while impressing his wife, at the same time….. too bad she doesn’t do the same for him!!!! This should be the final nail, does anyone remember what type of joke Will Smith made on the Arsenio Hall show in 1991? Yes that is right he made a bald joke to which some of the crowd got a little upset, he said “Oh these are jokes come on”

Just like Jada didn’t choose to be bald, this man didn’t choose to be bald either , but he laughed it off because he know Will was joking,  Wow the hypocrisy!!!!!

This event (the slap)  has overshadowed another black man winning an Oscar that night , Will Smith had to do something stupid, Samuel L Jackson is one of my favorite actors, he played a  character so well, I forgot that character was originally white (Nick Fury), that is not what he won for by the way,  he won his first Oscar that night ,Congratulations to him. His award was presented to him by Denzel Washington.

Will Smith should be ashamed of himself

Will Smith, Chris Rock & Michael Jackson http://selfequanimity.com/will-smith-chris-rock-michael-jackson/ http://selfequanimity.com/will-smith-chris-rock-michael-jackson/#respond Tue, 29 Mar 2022 14:27:05 +0000 https://selfequanimity.com/?p=1701 Oh how the mighty have fallen!!! Yesterday was the night of the Oscars, you know the award show where  Hollywood decides to give itself awards without us the people ? but when a movie is released it is we the people who spend money to watch it but that is a topic for another time.  Let me jump straight into it , Chris Rock who is a professional comedian, made a joke about Will Smith’s wife, (Jada Pinkett-Smith) for those who don’t know Will Smith is a mega star who was also a nominee. All jokes aside, I think Chris Rock was respectful, he started by saying Jada I love you, then proceeded with the joke. The interesting part of it all is that when the camera was on Will Smith, he was laughing and clapping at the joke, but when the camera moved to Jada Smith, she did not find it funny, Chris Rock continued with his presentation, as he was speaking we all saw Will walk towards the stage , even he wasn’t prepared for what was about to happen, to his surprise he was smacked by Will Smith , after that slap , he walked back to his seat, and shouted some harsh words for Chris Rock.

Jada, Chris & Will

Some say Chris Rock shouldn’t have made a joke like that when he knew very well that Jada Pinkett Smith, had a medical condition.  Interestingly enough , Will Smith thought that was funny initially, but his demeanor changed in a split second especially when he saw that Jada didn’t find it too funny,  So one question I ask is when did Will Smith become “gansta” Will?

Oh Only when Jada is concern, Will Smith has to suddenly transform into Tupac?   Smith was out of line if you ask me. People are still saying he was joking about a known medical condition , to which I reply, remember Michael Jackson??? Michael Jackson had a known medical condition too, yet most people made jokes about him? He had vitiligo, he first wore one glove to cover it up , (most people thought it was a fashion statement) then he started lightning his skin to even his skin complexion, because vitiligo  will leave spots one’s skin. There is no cure for Vitiligo, that did not change people’s perception and most still found it funny.

He was the joke of the century. So how was it ok for  people , to make fun of Michael Jackson , to the point where they thought he didn’t want to be black. How is it not ok to joke about Jada, and like Chris Rock said that was a nice one,  but everyone Joked about Michael???  Or was it that Michael was more deserving of it. We as a people shouldn’t pick and choose who deserves what , based upon who we like at the moment.

He didn’t have this energy for her “entanglement”, he didn’t even smack August Alsina, for coming into his matrimonial home and sleeping with his wife. Someone answer this question for me , which is more twisted? the fact that Will did what he did in front of their children or the fact that a married woman slept with her son’s friend???  well your guess is as good as mine. Chris Rock was very classy about the situation if you ask me !!!!!.

So it’s ok to sleep with his wife , as long as you are not making jokes about her. In his acceptance speech, he almost described it as abuse, but he didn’t have these harsh words for August, we never heard him say “Keep your f—— hands of my wife”!!!!!!!!!!. SICK AND TWISTED

Will Smith was out of line , but I do believe there is a big possibility that this was staged, regardless of if it was staged or not, this made black men look bad, maybe this is to get Chris Rock on Red table talk, who knows. Will Smith is the kind of black guy people wanted their sons to be like , even when he was a rapper , He was non violent , Even Eminem said it with that famous line “Will Smith don’t got to cuss in his records, well I do” and he was the first rapper to win a Grammy award, now we have this……Will Smith shouting F- Words like Tupac????. Funny enough Jada Smith was “friends” with Tupac.

The point is there were 2 different Will Smiths, that night, the one who thought the joke was funny and the one who thought he should do something because his wife was upset. In his acceptance speech , he said Love make you do crazy things, to that I agree.

He still loves this woman , but he has some deep issues and Chris Rock is not to blame for that.

Funny Chris Rock even dressed up as a woman on “Fresh prince of Bel Air”. They have been friends for a long time, so what happened ??? this is the question that anyone with half a brain should be asking.

Let us pay attention to the mood swings, they did not want Kanye West at award shows because of his ONLINE behavior, we also remember when Kanye and Taylor Swift had that confrontation.

Do We seriously think Will would have done the same thing , if it was someone like Jimmy Fallon making a joke like that ?

Jimmy Fallon

and I know what people are going to say but if you have listened to Jimmy Fallon’s jokes, he has said worse things about people. People always joke about public figures, no matter what they are going through.

One minute Will Smith was laughing next he was so angry, and finally he was crying ,  hmm And we all thought Kanye was the crazy one!!!!!

What we expect to be taught in school http://selfequanimity.com/what-we-expect-to-be-taught-in-school/ http://selfequanimity.com/what-we-expect-to-be-taught-in-school/#respond Fri, 27 Aug 2021 07:01:30 +0000 https://selfequanimity.com/?p=1438

THIS IS NOT FINANCIAL ADVICE, PLEASE DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH

There is a reason for such a title,  we expect to be told everything in school, till this day most people will base their inability to think on the school they went to rather than their experience and inability to recognize an opportunity.  Most people who have made it or are on the way to making it took advantage of opportunities that came their way or created opportunities for themselves. Sometimes when there are no opportunities available.  I will mention a few names in the course of this article.   The way we think makes a very big difference in how we act and perceive a lot of things.

Like most of my articles in recent times this will be a  short article but very thought-provoking,  I wonder why we think that because certain things are not taught in our schools, that equates to us not succeeding in our endeavors, ask any business owner will tell you, they prefer experience over degrees, they prefer people with the ability to complete a certain task rather than them wasting money to show them around. Businessmen will rather hire people who can think on their feet rather than ask for thought assistance every minute.

Let us begin,  the first question we should be asking is, what practical knowledge do we possess? Most of the knowledge we possess isn’t practical,  because more often than not we like to or should I say we love history but don’t make use of it,  This is what I mean….

Take someone like Reginald F Lewis, Most people of today couldn’t tell you who he is or was.  but he was the first black man to build a Billion dollar business, it wasn’t being done before him, note that I said the first black man/person to build a billion-dollar business, I never said the first black billionaire.  I think everyone should read about this man, and then see how he was able to do something that was unheard of at that time, sadly people like him are not with us anymore.

Reginald F Lewis

Bernard S Garret SR,  was the first black man/person to own a bank and was actually controlling white banks, this is a man with an 11th-grade education, and more importantly, he did it in the era of Jim crow, yet he was able to outsmart people who were college-educated, he was one of the wealthiest black men of his time.  He had a partner in a business called Joseph B Morris who was already a successful businessman.  Bernard S Garret was very good at math and we know as engineers and mathematicians, problem-solving skills are a must, so he looked at what was against him and said hmmm how do I solve this?   He did it, and it is because of him certain laws were changed, brothers and sisters, most of the time we ask what can be done for us when life is all about figuring out how to solve certain problems.

Before I end this who remembers thriller by Michael Jackson,  well fun fact, in the 80s black people were not given fair play on MTV, he came up with a video that was so good, that they had no choice but to show it on MTV,  you know you created something when white children gathered around their TV to watch Thriller,  The difference between these people and us today is that they didn’t know “it” couldn’t be done!

“The only time a man is really rich is when he controls money”- Bernard S Garret SR

Contracts and Entertainment http://selfequanimity.com/contracts-and-entertainment/ http://selfequanimity.com/contracts-and-entertainment/#respond Mon, 21 Sep 2020 05:34:54 +0000 http://selfequanimity.com/?p=917 I’m sure we all have heard about Kanye West’s rants, these are new, happened a few days ago, it’s interesting how everything unfolded. There are mixed reactions on what he had to say, mostly about the entertainment industry. People have mixed reactions about his dealings with rap mogul Jay z.

Kanye West

The funny thing about all this is that most people see the glamour and the glitter and they equate everything to it.

Jay Z

No matter how many times this is said, people will still get the wrong misconception. Being Rich, being wealthy, and being famous are 3 different things.

Sometimes these 3 intersect, sometimes they don’t.  Most people think that once you get fame everything else is added to it which could be further from the truth. They think once you are famous, you get the women and the money.

With this issue, people will be dismissive and say, “Oh, Kanye is crazy, he doesn’t know what he is talking about, but he posted a contract for us to read,  I must say it is a 100 page contract, so no one is really going to spend time reading it. The few who read it know it was almost an unfair deal. The more important question should be, is Kanye telling the truth? YES!!. It is said that Jay Z had to “sell out” his own brother in order to get his own masters back.  Jay could have got his masters back by other means,  like re-recording his music so he can own them, (Prince said he was going to do that, on an interview with Larry King,  I don’t know if he actually did it, Taylor Swift also said she was going to do the same thing). As far as the contract, I will leave that part to you the reader. Year after year the story seems to be the same,   a lot of people don’t know that  Notorious B.I.G ( Biggie Smalls), and Tupac Shakur, died broke, they didn’t make enough money, from their own music.

The question we should all be asking is, “is it worth it “?  Is the music industry really as shady as they make it out to be or are some of the artists just overspend money that is recoupable?  Do these artists really possess the talent and creativity to produce and write their own songs, or we just see them as something they are not? Take a case like R Kelly, despite what you think of him, just based on creativity alone, he shouldn’t be broke! Sadly he is because he trusted the wrong people after all.  Mc Hammer shouldn’t be broke, he is one of the few rappers that actually sold  10 million copies, and above(diamond amongst people like Tupac,  Notorious BIG, and Eminem, just to name a few.  For those who don’t understand how important diamond status is, this means the album or single sold 10 million copies and above. We have people like the Beatles and Elvis in that category, and a few African songs like ” sweet mother” which sold more copies than the Beatles best seller. This is how rare and important that is.

At the end of the day, we can’t blame the industry too much for what they do, after all, they are in this to make money, they could care less about fame.  Personally I think it is up to the artist to learn as much as they can, so they can start making their own money. If that doesn’t happen we will hear the same story again and again.

There have been a few people that have actually helped musicians and the music business as a whole.

Michael Jackson,  Master P, Wendy Day,  and believe it or not Donald Trump.  yes, our 45th did more to help musicians even more than Jay Z ever has, by signing  The MUSIC Modernization ACT.   He used executive privileges to sign this into law. This targets the streaming services, of course, they didn’t like that.

The signing of the Music Mordenization Act
The signing of the Music Modernization Act

That ACT forces, streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify to pay royalties to the artists/songwriters/engineers,  back then Streaming services including Jay-Z’s Tidal were not paying artists/songwriters/engineers, when their material is played on streaming services. Spotify tried to retaliate by suing songwriters, I’m yet to be updated on that particular lawsuit.

One of the ugly truths also is that most people don’t know that they make more money in their 9-5 than their favorite artists. You can read Kanye’s contracts by clicking the link below

Double Standards, ‘Fake’ Outrage! http://selfequanimity.com/double-standard-fake-outrage/ http://selfequanimity.com/double-standard-fake-outrage/#respond Wed, 13 May 2020 06:12:44 +0000 http://selfequanimity.com/?p=278

If you asked the common black man, how they felt about President Trump, 99% of the time they will tell you that they hate Trump, or F—-k Trump. If you asked them why, they couldn’t tell you, all they know is they hate Trump, they don’t know why, and they will tell you he is racist

Trump with Rev Run & Russell Simmons
Trump with Rev Run & Russell Simmons

Why is there so much outrage against Donald Trump, who started that Narrative??  that is the question we should be asking ourselves, can we prove that he is really a racist? he will call this himself, “fake” news.  For some reason we seem to listen to what say, (Even Cardi B got to be political something she never cared about when she was a stripper) we make leaders out of people who haven’t even asked to be leaders, to be fair celebrities do have a voice, Malcolm X criticized the black community for mistaking celebrities as leaders but even he understood the voice these celebrities sometimes have and he was successful in leveraging such a voice. This person is Mohammed Ali. In the ’70s when black communities were led by men, civil rights was part of the culture, most black celebrities also understood what equality meant. People like James Brown, Malcolm X understood that sometimes a leader and a celebrity are the same.

Trump and P Diddy
Trump and P Diddy

Let us get back to the subject,  How did this narrative start of Trump being a Racist ?? why do black people think he hates them? Maybe because he is republican but that isn’t enough reason to hate him. it’s easier to convince black people that a republican is a racist than it is to convince them that the democratic party is actually the party of the KKK.

A few people who are familiar with some part of history will say that his company was sued in the ’70s for housing discrimination, which he settled out of court, they believe this is proof that he is racist.  He also made comments about an incident that happened in  Charlottesville VA. People said that was evidence of his racism, note he was being called a racist before that incident. When it comes to Trump, it is a bit confusing, the confusing part is watching the action and reactions of people, one-minute black people love Trump and then the next minute they hate him, it couldn’t have been because he became president, because they knew he was running. This is the same man who was on the Apprentice, these same celebrities were on the Apprentice with him, yet they pretend they didn’t know how Mr. Donald Trump is. The truth is we shouldn’t be paying attention to everything celebrities say, Sometimes they don’t know what they are talking about, or they are lying. They get paid for lying to people, and somehow we believe them, case and point, On March 4th, 2020 Whoopi Goldberg, who is a regular  presenter on the view said something that was very interesting, she said

“I’m hoping Dr. Jill becomes the Surgeon General, Joe Biden’s wife, she is a hell of a doctor, she is an amazing doctor”

When she started to make this statement, she got applause from the audience, one can tell she was clearly acting when she said it, she sounded as if she knew this lady personally. No facts to back up what she was saying. She has ‘fake’ outrage against the President so much that she is willing to tell a lie like this. The funny thing is her audience agreed with her. However, President Trump appointed one of the most qualified people for the job of Surgeon General.

Trump with Oprah
Trump with Oprah

We are in a society where people don’t pay attention to facts, they let their emotions run them and they are happy with that, let’s see if we get some outrage for the following.

Let us compare Donald Trump to Joe Biden and the Democratic party. I wonder if people remember the 1994 crime bill that was signed by Bill Clinton, the bill that locked up a lot of black people without any provisions on rehabilitation. Bill Clinton is no longer the president but here is the interesting part, not only did Joe Biden support Clinton’s controversial Bill but he helps write that bill. Joe Biden has been part of every major crime bill since 1976, yet all black people think about is, “Let’s get him out” why because he is racist??? (TRUMP)  in the 4 years that Trump has been in office, let us look at what he has done,  we have the First Step ACT, which a lot of black people have benefitted from, ( after Joe Biden help lock them up), he pardoned the first black heavyweight champion, Jack Johnson. he supports school choice, and he increased funding to HBCUs ( Historically Black Colleges). The Music Modernization ACT, is a copyright reform bill which states songwriters will be paid, when their songs are played via streaming services, some state that it is the most important law in a generation, with a law like this you would think that all the black musicians would be behind Trump but still going with that narrative of how he is hateful.  In fact, there are a few songs by the same people who swear they hate him today.

Trump made these rap songs COOL!!!!!!

  1. Ice Cube – 3 Strikes
  2. Lil Wayne- (Feat TI) ‘Ball”
  3. Lil Wayne- “Racks on Racks”
  4. Lil Wayne – Getdown
  5. Lil Wayne (Feat Kanye West)- Flashing lights
  6. Juvinile (Feat Lil Wayne) What’s up wit dat
  7. Nas- Money is my Bitch
  8. Nas- Top Down
  9. Nas – “Loco-motive”
  10. Young Buck- “Loco”
  11. Gucci Mane & Young Thug- ” Donald Trump”
  12. Gucci Mane – Straight drop
  13. Young Thug- “Loaded’
  14. Nas- money is my bitch
  15. Nas- Top down
  16. Nas- “Loco-motive”
  17. Meek Mill ( feat Master P) – “I Miss that”
  18. Kendrick Lamar – Is it live
  19. Kendrick Lamar – “Pirates”
  20. Ice Cube, I got to say What’s up

Once upon a time, it used to be so cool to mention Trump’s name in a song, to a point that these celebrities even had songs named Trump, now all of a sudden he is hated

When it comes to the Music Modernization act, a lot of people don’t realize how historic that is, before Trump no musician was getting paid from streaming services. We as black people should have done this ourselves but, we didn’t just because we give people a pass just for being black. We know Jay Z owns Tidal, needless to say not even Jay Z said,” I think artists and music writers should be paid for, if and when their songs are played through streaming services”, it took Donald Trump, the racist president to sign this into law. As part of Diplomacy, Jay Z (as an owner of streaming services) could have shown up for the signing, being that he is also an artist, but that never happened. It is time we started questioning our celebrities’ leaders and what they stand for.

According to rolingstone.com Trump asked Kid Rock ( who was present at the signing) “You like this legislation or do you hate it ?”, Kid Rock replied  “I like it”  and he went on to say, “everybody knows this business of music is a very dirty business”.

Little Richard just passed away, we all know little Richard has contributed a lot to the culture of music, he had a lot of hits, little fact, Richard did not own his own music for some time, His record label owned his music which later was owned by the Beatles.  How was this possible? Little Richard was signed to a record label called Speciality Records, they owned all his music. The publishing part of that company was acquired by ATV music publishing. ATV music publishing was acquired by Michael Jackson in the ’80s. Michael Jackson returned his music publishing to him, FOR FREE!! publishing that was worth by some estimates, ($12 Million)

Little Richard
Little Richard

The craziest part of this story is little Richard was worth $40 Million or was able to achieve a net worth of $40 Million because he finally got to enjoy some of the fruits of his labor.  In this era of new technology we all get our music through some streaming services, some of his songs are on streaming services,  Little Richard’s estate gets money from streaming services because of this white racist republican president.  Interesting isn’t it ???
