This shows what we can do if we never give up. This gentleman is like a modern-day Martin Luther King or a Marcus Garvey. This man was able to organize people to get something done. Not too long ago an individual named Christian Smalls was a regular worker at an Amazon warehouse. He was transferred to the Staten Island facility in New York and like most of us, he believed in upward mobility, After applying for management positions numerous times, he suspected there was something wrong with the system. After keen observation, he discovered a list of problems with the company ranging from safety to health concerns among others. Of course, when he brought these issues up, first Amazon did nothing, when he decided to take it higher, the HR department in Amazon released a statement and lied about the whole thing, Lawyers, the mayor at that time ( Bill De Blasio) all did the minimum, they all appeared to be doing something or started something…. Eventually, Smalls was fired, reasons??? he violated the company’s policies.
Smalls is a fighter, this is why I said he should be an inspiration to all of us.
This is what he did after getting fired
- He Founded an activist Group The Congress of Essential Workers (TCOEW)
- He orchestrated strikes across the country from the outside
- Orchestrated a march to Jeff Bezos’ house to demand better pay and working conditions
- Finally established the Amazon Labor Union (ALU)
This is one of the most important parts of this story, the hypocrisy of our politicians, when the story broke, we had politicians like Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, all pretending to be involved, Bernie Sanders even promised Mr. Smalls about testifying in front of congress. Mr. Smalls went to Washington DC when the famous “squad” was staging a protest of their own by sleeping on the Capitol steps. For those who don’t know who or what the squad is, they are a group from the US House of representatives, who claim to fight for the common man/woman, it’s members are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Jamaal Bowman and Cori Bush, so he thought they would support since it was a human rights issue, he met with the likes of Cori Bush and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. They seem enthusiastic about the cause, Even AOC offered Mr. Smalls her information only to disappoint at the last minute saying she had security concerns even though she wasn’t too concerned about security when she and others slept on the capitol steps.
Christian Smalls with his close friend Derick Palmer built a grassroots organization that went against a major corporation, Kudos gentlemen!!!!!, this should be front-page news everywhere!!!!!!!!!!! A shining example to all of us!!!!
