In 2020, all we ever heard was defund the Police…… people just mixed a whole lot together, racism, discrimination, etc. If we are dealing with criminals, do we think criminals will have a change of heart just because we were told that police will be defunded ?? Now almost these same states that actually went ahead and took money from the police are now hiring more police officers, what a shocker??? I couldn’t even imagine something like this would happen. There is no perfect organization in this world and that includes the police, yes police have been used as a tool in racism before, even our beloved and current president Joe Biden did this, ( in his famous 94 crime bill) but it’s not the foundation of racism as we are made to believe. We have to understand that the police are doing something right. To assume that the police are the problem is just a wrong direction some states took just to be on the “right” side (whichever side that might be). The truth is that a lot of police departments have lost funding and others have just retreated. Although most people are law-abiding citizens, they went out to protest the police with the best of intentions, but we all know criminals are not law-abiding in the first place. They follow a different set of rules. I wonder why data couldn’t be used for this, but instead, most of the public went on pure emotion and now we are facing the consequences. In 2015 ( according to sources) ALCU filed a lawsuit against Chicago police making it almost impossible for the police to make random stops and random searches after that murder jumped by 58%, they could have used this data and known that defunding the police couldn’t have been a good idea, the same thing happened after the Freddie Gray’s case, even though some of the Police officers who arrested Gray were black. Philadelphia just hit a 30 year high in homicides in 2020, they defunded the police by $12 million and murders went up by 255% New York is also in trouble, after the mayor said he was going to defund the police by $1 billion now he is singing a different song since crime is up. LA wants 250 more officers because they are also dealing with an increase in crime
Shootings in Minneapolis up over 200%, isn’t this the place where George Floyd got killed? OOOHh we all wanted to pretend that there was nothing but Angels in that city, if the police will just leave them alone everyone will go about their business, and everything will be alright. Today the city council of that same city, made a decision to increase the police budget by $6 million, interestingly they decrease the budget by $8 million during the protests
We have to understand that criminals are not law-abiding citizens, they follow their own rules, and what they would like is some sort of anarchy, so they will be able to do the things that are not beneficial to anyone but themselves. We also need to understand that we cannot demonize the police as a whole and think that once they are gone, everything will be alright, criminals will just stop committing crimes, most crimes are economic and not because of the police. We don’t have to listen to politicians, they treat us like spoilt children in order to get our votes, they can’t make tough decisions, especially these days… we as a people should decide what is good for us, I say more training is needed…. both the public and police. especially the public since we don’t see all the data unless something terrible happens. If anyone has doubts, we now know what happens when we make hasty decisions like defunding the police
